RHS softball goes 3-1 in NW Alabama Bash

The Russellville High softball team went 4-2 during a week of games that included participation in the Northwest Alabama Bash at the Sportsplex in Florence.

RHS started the week with a trip to Austin High School to face the Lady Bears. Austin got the 7-6 extra-inning win by scoring twice in the bottom half of the eighth inning after the Lady Golden Tigers scored one run in the top of the frame.

Russellville’s Chloe James led the team with three hits and one RBI. Khristyan Huerta and Sadie Odom also had RBIs for RHS.

Kaylee Suggs pitched seven innings for Russellville and Taitum Bishop also pitched.

RHS hosted Belgreen on April 14 and the Lady Tigers got a 14-4 victory. The Lady Bulldogs were ahead 4-2 when Russellville erupted with 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

James and Odom hit home runs for Russellville. Doubles were collected by Blevyn Sappington, Ticelee Gholston, Suggs and Huerta. Russellville got three RBIs from both Bishop and Huerta.

The winning pitcher was Bishop. The righthander went five innings and struck out five Bulldogs.

RHS’s first game in the Northwest Alabama Bash was a 6-5 win over Scotts Hill (Tennessee) on Friday.

Russellville’s Alexia Groce hit a home run and also smacked a double. Groce had two RBIs while Odom also had a double and drove-in two runs. McCulloch had two singles while Huerta and Sappington added RBIs to the Russellville total.

Suggs was the RHS pitcher.

Russellville then fell to Albertville 9-7 in the second game of the day for the Lady Tigers. Gholston, Huerta and Sappington had two hits each. Gholston led the team with two RBIs while McCulloch, Bishop, Suggs, Odom and Sappington also had RBIs.

Bishop did the pitching for Russellville.

Russellville returned to Florence on Saturday and finished the Bash with two games. In the first game, RHS defeated Skyline by a final score of 3-0. Sappington had two hits, including a triple. Suggs added two hits and two RBIs. Groce and Suggs had doubles.

Suggs was the winning pitcher.

RHS (20-19-1) then got a 2-1 victory over Colbert Heights. Gholston had two hits, including a triple, and Sappington also contributed two hits. Bishop and McCulloch had the Russellville RBIs.

Suggs and Bishop both pitched with Suggs collecting the win.
