RHS softball goes 4-4 for the week

The Russellville softball team had a busy week winning four of eight games, including a trip to Cullman for the two-day Bearcat Bash.

The Lady Golden Tigers visited Belgreen on April 6 and got a 7-5 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Alexia Groce hit a home run for Russellville while Bri McCulloch, Chloe James and Khristyan Huerta collected doubles. Groce and Huerta led the team with two RBIs each.

Kaylee Suggs pitched six innings for RHS and Taitum Bishop was in the circle for the last inning.

Russellville went to Hamilton on April 7 and defeated the Lady Aggies 5-2. RHS outhit Hamilton 13-3 to overcome six fielding errors.

Groce homered for the second-straight day and Huerta added a double. Groce had three hits and two RBIs while Bishop, James and Sadie Odom had two hits each.

Bishop pitched a complete game and struck out four.

The Lady Tigers fell to 1-2 in area play with a 2-0 loss at Lawrence County on April 9. Russellville had two hits — doubles by Bishop and Suggs. Bishop was also the RHS pitcher.

The Golden Tigers participated in the Bearcat Bash on April 10-11. Russellville started the event with an 8-4 win over Pisgah.

Groce hit a home run and had two RBIs. Ticelee Gholston, Bishop and Suggs had the most hits for RHS with two each. Suggs got the win in the circle, pitching all five innings.

Russellville then faced Cullman and lost to the Bearcats, 3-2. Groce, Bishop and Gholston had doubles. James and Gholston led the RHS team with two hits each while James had the two Russellville RBIs. Bishop went four innings as the RHS pitcher. Day two of the Bearcat Bash began with a 10-8 Russellville loss to Albertville. Groce and Suggs had two hits each to lead RHS. Blevyn Sappington and Suggs had two RBIs each to lead the team. Suggs was the pitcher with only two of the 10 Albertville runs being earned.

The Lady Tigers then defeated Mountain Brook by the final score of 9-5 in a three-inning game. Gholston had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Suggs and Odom also drove in two runs each. Bishop got the win in the circle and MacKenzie Wright also pitched.

Russellville (16-17-1) finished the event with a 6-1 loss to Cullman. James and Odom led the team with two hits each and Odom had the RBI. Suggs and Jonalyn Thorn were the RHS pitchers.
