Russellville winless in Buckhorn Bash

Russellville’s varsity softball team opened the season Feb. 22 at the Huntsville Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex as the Lady Golden Tigers participated in the Buckhorn Bash.

RHS played three games during the event.

Russellville fell in the first game to Buckhorn by a 7-0 score, dropped game two to Wilson High School 1-0, and lost to the Brewer Patriots in the final contest of the day, 13-0.

Buckhorn scored one run in the first inning and six more in the third during the five-inning game versus Russellville. The Golden Tigers had two hits and committed three errors on defense. The RHS hits were both singles by Ticelee Gholston and Mackenzie Wright. Kaylee Suggs did the pitching for Russellville.

RHS head coach Rick Lawson’s young team fell in a close five-inning contest with Wilson. The Lady Warriors plated the game’s only run during the top half of the third inning.

Wilson had three hits during the game and Russellville had two singles, one each by Alexia Groce and Gholston. The Lady Tigers were patient at the plate drawing five walks. Bri McCulloch walked twice while Sadie Odom, Suggs and Erin Grimes had one walk each. Blevyn Sappington reached base after being hit by a pitch.

Jonalyn Thorn was Russellville’s pitcher.

Brewer was too much for RHS during a threeinning contest. The Lady Patriots outhit Russellville 11-1, and the Lady Golden Tigers had five errors on defense.

Gholston singled for Russellville’s only hit. McCulloch and Grimes also reached base via walks. Odom added a stolen base for the Golden Tigers.

Russellville used three pitchers versus Brewer with each working one inning in the circle. Thorn allowed four runs on five hits. Suggs allowed four runs with three of them being earned on two hits. Wright allowed five runs and four were earned on four hits.
