Volleyball season ends for Russellville with loss at area tourney

The 2024 varsity volleyball season came to an end Oct. 16 for the Russellville Golden Tigers at the AHSAA Class 5A Area 15 tournament.

Russellville took on the West Point Warriors in the opening round of the tournament hosted by Lawrence County High School. WPHS swept Russellville 3-0 by scores of 25-8, 25-21 and 25-22. Lawrence County had a bye in the first round and then defeated the Warriors 3-0 to win the area title.

In the area tournament for Russellville, Alexia Groce had nine assists and one dig. Blevyn Sappington added eight digs, five kills and one serve ace. Haylee Rikard had two digs and one kill, Laila Hill added nine kills and five digs and Khristyan Huerta had 10 assists, three digs and one ace. Bella Malone added four kills while Bri McCulloch had 17 digs, one kill and one ace. Haylee Patrick had three digs and one kill, Erin Grimes added three digs and one assist and Brooklyn Davis had two kills.

Russellville’s Laila Hill, Bri McCulloch and Blevyn Sappington made the All-Area team. The RHS squad had two seniors this year and they were Kaylee Garner and Haylee Rikard. The 2024 season was the first for Madison Lamon as RHS varsity head coach.
