PCHS student-athlete signs with Southwest Tennessee

Phil Campbell third baseman Kenner Scott signed a softball scholarship with Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis this past week.

The multi=sport athlete said she is looking forward to the opportunity to extend her softball career and continue her education.

“It feels great,” said Scott. “All my hard work over the years has finally paid off. I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity to get to play at the next level.”

Scott can play multiple positions, but third base is her primary position for the Bobcats.

“I told my coach I would play wherever he needed me to be,” Scott explained. “I will give 100 percent.”

Scott said she loves to play in the field and knows there will be some adjustments she has to make to be successful at the JUCO level.

“My biggest strength is definitely fielding. That’s always been my favorite thing about the game: going out there and telling myself that nothing is getting past me and laying out for everything,” Scott said. “I’ll definitely have to work on my hitting to adjust to the college level.”

Greg Winstead is beginning his first year back as the softball coach for Phil Campbell, so he hasn’t gotten to see Scott in action much yet – but he said he is proud of her nonetheless. “I know she will be a great representative of the Phil Campbell softball program.”

Scott said she plans to pursue a career in radiation therapy.
