Vina gains momentum ahead of area tournament

The Vina Red Devils picked up a couple of wins and improved to 20-8 as they head into area tournament play this week.

Vina defeated Waterloo 45-28 earlier last week. The Red Devils defense stymied the Cougars, holding them to three points in the first quarter and four points in the fourth quarter.

Vina led Waterloo 7-3 at the end of the first quarter and 20-15 at halftime and extended the lead to 34-25 in the third quarter.

Kaitlyn King led Vina on the boards with 10 rebounds.

Rayleigh Guin led in scoring with 15 points and seven assists. Sara Scott added 10 points. Sarah Johnson scored six points, Abbie Petree four points, King three points, LaDava Davis two points and Hailey Cantrell one point.

Vina 61, Shoals Christian 54

The Lady Red Devils nailed four three-pointers in overtime to pick up their final win of the regular season, 61-54, over Shoals Christian.

Kaitlyn Athey hit three of her six three-pointers in overtime to help Vina outscore Shoals 14-7 in overtime and get the win.
