County girls teams overcome competitors

Macy Faulkner dropped four three-pointers and scored 17 points to help lead Red Bay to a 58-32 win over Winston County last week.

Red Bay jumped out to a 17-5 lead over the Yellow Jackets in the first quarter, but Winston County cut the Tigers’ lead by two to 25-15 by halftime.

Red Bay came out of the locker room hot and blew the game open, outscoring Winston County 20-7 to take a 45-22 lead into the fourth quarter.

Madisyn Hester followed Faulkner with 10 points. Emma McCollister hit three three-pointers to score nine points. Destiny McCollister added eight points, and Kaylie Lindley had five points. Lila Blackburn, Kylee James and Makenzie Hester scored two points each. Alexis Tabbs, Hanna Grace Green and Mackenzi Gasaway scored one point each.

Vina 53, Hackleburg 52

Rayleigh Guin scored 23 points to help Vina to a 53-52 area win last week.

“We struggled with our shooting,” said Vina Coach Richie Hester. “We missed a lot of shots we normally make – but a win is a win.

“We had a lead going into the fourth quarter and couldn’t make any shots and let them back in it, but we held on.”

Kaitlyn Athey followed Guin with 17 points. Sara Scott added nine points. Kaitlyn King and Abbie Petree scored two points each.
