Phil Campbell holds off Winfield to get win

The Phil Campbell softball team held off a late rally by the Winfield Pirates to earn a 5-4 win Monday.

Winfield led 1-0 after one inning and maintained that lead until the bottom of the third inning, when the Bobcats tied the game on a Katie Thomas single scoring Kenner Scott.

Phil Campbell took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Caymen Quinn doubled in Emily Duncan and Scott. Olivia Taylor came around to score on the next at-bat.

Phillips scored two more in the top of the sixth inning to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 4-3, but Phil Campbell extended that lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Thomas singled in Scott for the second time in the game.

Quinn and Thomas both had two hits and two RBIs. Cypress Quinn had two hits and an RBI. Scott had two hits and scored three times.

Emma Ergle got the complete game win, striking out three and giving up eight hits but only two earned runs.
