Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

All of us look at Memorial Day as the first holiday of the summer season, and this is true – but it really means so much more.

This year I have seen evidence of the day when I noticed so many American flags displayed in cemeteries in Franklin County. I have also noticed so many of the politicians’ signs that have the colors red, white and blue.

This week, as I noticed so many flags being displayed on graves in local cemeteries, my mind was carried back to Mr. Allen O’Reilly. Many years ago this fine citizen of our county made sure folks would remember those who protected and honor our country. Mr. O’Reilly would display flags on the highway, and in many of the cemeteries, and he was always delighted in remembering those folks who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great country.

I always felt that Mr. Allen O’Reilly never received the recognition that he rightfully deserved; maybe he did, and I might have failed to recognize it. I really think it is so wonderful that one person made sure we would never forget the brave men and women who kept this country free.

I really wish that Mr. O’Reilly was here today, and we could honor him for his work.

Let us never take our blessings for granted. When you see that person today who has served our country, be sure to tell them, “Thank you for your service.” It will mean so much to them, and I really believe that we will feel better ourselves.

This week as I was preparing this story, I learned of the death of Mr. Olen Searcy. Olen served this country during World War II, and I am sure he gave the service his very best. Our condolences go out to Doris (his wife) and other members of the Searcy family for the service that Olen gave during World War II.

Not many people who served in that war are still with us today.

Let us never forget why we remain free. We are free because of the brave people who chose to do their part to make this country great.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby

Thought for the Day

Let us never forget the price of freedom, and never let us take it for granted.
