Tharptown girls pick up win over Colbert County

The Tharptown Wildcats posted three big innings against the Colbert County Indians to get a 10-1 runaway win in the Cherokee Invitational Tournament.

Tharptown scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth inning and three in the sixth inning to take the easy win.

Cara Ergle and Brooke Daily had big games at the plate. Ergle went two-for-four with three runs batted in and scored a run. Daily went one-for-three with a walk, scored two runs and batted in two runs.

Aly Vandiver went two-for-three with a double and scored two runs. Shaylee Wieting went two-for-four, scoring three runs. Catie Dawson went three-for-four with a run batted in. Taylor Cameron went one-for-four and scored two runs.

Cameron also got the win for the Wildcats, pitching six innings, giving up three hits and a run. She also struck out 16 Colbert County batters.

Despite outhitting Sheffield, Tharptown couldn’t get any runs across the plate, losing to the Bulldogs 4-0.

The Wildcats got two hits in the game from Brooke Daily. They also got hits from Wieting, Catie Dawson, Olivia Ergle, and Vandiver.

Thaptown also lost to Phil Campbell, the eventual winners of the tournament, 3-1. The Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats scored one run in the bottom of the inning. That was all the scoring there would be in the game.
