Red Bay man faces sex crime charge
In January the State Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation into James Lamar Horton, 71, of Red Bay at the request of the Red Bay Police Department.
“Information that we gained eventually led to the arrest of Horton,” SBI Capt. Jonathan Winters said.
Horton was arrested Jan. 24 and was incarcerated at the Franklin County Detention Facility.
His bond of $200,000 was set by Franklin County District Judge Paula McDowell Jan. 25.
“As the investigation is ongoing and involves minors, I can only provide a limited amount of information at this time,” Winters said.
Horton, who was a member of the Foster Grandparent Program of Northwest Alabama and was volunteering at Red Bay Elementary School, was charged with four counts of indecent exposure, two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 and one count of criminal surveillance.
