Belgreen third graders stomp out bullying

Principal Myra Fredericks signs BHS third graders “bill” into “law.”

Belgreen third graders have been studying about how a bill becomes a law. They decided they wanted to focus on the prevention of bullying, and the class became bill writers.

The third grade class sent the bill to the senate (a fifth grade class), where it was passed. Then, they sent the bill to the school leader, Principal Mrya Frederick, where she signed the bill into a law. After the bill was passed, it enabled the third graders to participate in The National Acts of Kindness Day.

This group of third graders scheduled several activities on how to be kind to one another. Their goal for this project was to spark a movement to prove that kindness will help to prevent bullying. The third graders planned an assembly titled, “Stomp out Bullying with Kindness.” During the assembly, these young students acted out skits in which they presented examples of ways to be kind. They demonstrated different ways to be helpful to their peers as well as people in their community. During the assembly, guest speaker Josh Thompson shared an inspiring story about acts of kindness. The third grade students then challenged the Pre-K through sixth grade students to perform random acts of kindness. Posters were placed in the hallway to allow the students to see how much progress they were making with the challenge.
