Pharmacy robber pleads to robbery
In June 2015, Christopher Trail, 28, was charged with pharmacy robbery, among other charges. In late January 2016 he pleaded guilty to robbery first degree.
Trail, of Red Bay, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the incident that took place at Redmont Pharmacy in Red Bay.
“It worked out the best it could have,” said district attorney Joey Rushing. He said the DA’s office discussed the plea with the victims. “We felt like a minimum 20 years sentence was warranted based on the severity of his actions.”
Rushing commended the Red Bay Police Department officers for a good job of working the case.
“We were pleased to settle that case as quickly as we did,” Rushing said.
Trail entered the pharmacy with a gun on a Wednesday morning, ordering all staff members and pharmacist Donna Weatherford to a back room. Weatherford convinced Trail to let the rest of the staff leave in short order but was held as a hostage herself for some time. Numerous agencies responded to the scene, and Trail was taken into custody before midday.
