Anthony Bentley vies for county commission District 4

Anthony Bentley has a clear vision for why he wants to serve as a county commissioner: “I think I could improve things that need to be done in our area. I think we need greater communication between the commission, departments and general public.”
Bentley, who said years of hard work have qualified him for the position, has been a supervisor for Martin Stove in Sugarfield, Ala., and director for General Motors out of Atlanta. He also studied at the Technical College in Cleveland, Ohio, in management and in Dearborn, Mich., at the GM school for management. He presently works for White Oak Transportation out of Decatur.
“These jobs I’ve had, having to oversee budgets and allocate funds into the areas they’re needed – I’ve worked with people, and I think that’s what we need,” he said. “I will work closely with officials as well as the economic development committee” to seek grants and other sources of revenue other than tax revenue.
Jobs creation is another focus for Bentley. “We have industrial parks all over our county that don’t have anything in them. Our children are having to move out of our county for jobs, and I’d like to see our children have a good future in this county,” he said. He also hopes to focus on roads, in addition to jobs and communication.
“I’ve been dedicated to my jobs, and I’m going to continue to be dedicated as a representative for the people of Franklin County and the needs and desires they would like me to take care of,” Bentley said.
A member of Cedar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Bentley said beautiful lakes and generous people make Franklin County a great place to live. “There’s no place like home. Everyone wants to live at home, I think. I don’t think anyone wants to move out of this area. A lot of them are forced to move out.”
He enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bentley has been married to his wife Betty for 53 years. They have two children, Donna Eaton and Christopher Bentley, and two grandchildren, Justin Madden and Christopher Bentley Jr.
Bentley will square off with Don Hasting and Norris Lewey in the primary election.
