‘The Breeze is Back’
Joe Holmes, Kelly Cole, Trent Stephenson and Kerry Gilbert are getting the band back together – Mountain Breeze will perform a reunion concert Jan. 23 as a benefit for Gilbert, who is fighting pancreatic lymphoma.
Franklin County’s own Mountain Breeze is back.
The local quartet, popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s, is reuniting on Jan. 23 for a concert to benefit bass singer Kerry Gilbert in his fight against pancreatic lymphoma.
“We are excited about the reunion concert and a chance to help our friend Kerry Gilbert with his medical expenses,” said Joe Holmes, baritone singer. “It will be great to see all our fans again Jan. 23, to play some music and share some great memories.”
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Russellville High School auditorium. The Secret Sisters and Jarred Pierce will also appear.
Mountain Breeze consists of Holmes on baritone, Kelly Cole on lead, Trent Stephenson on tenor and Gilbert on bass.
Reserved seats are $25. A Celebration Package is also available for $50, which includes seating in the first six rows, a meet and greet with the band at 6 p.m. and a complimentary “In Dixie” CD. “In Dixie” was the group’s 1986 album that featured several original songs penned by Holmes, Cole, Russellville City Councilman Gary Cummings and the late Joey Holder.
“We were able to digitize the cassette recordings and are happy to offer this as a memento for our fans to keep,” Cole said.
Souvenir 30-year T-shirts will also be available. All proceeds from the concert and merchandise sales will go to benefit Gilbert.

All former band members and vocalists will be recognized on stage and are encouraged to attend.
“We appreciate Mayor David Grissom’s support and efforts to get this event off the ground,” said Stephenson.
Gilbert echoed his sentiments. “Franklin County is home for all of us, and Russellville holds a special place in our hearts. It’s going to be a great night.”
