“It’s a happy day for him but a sad day for us,” shared chief clerk Jennell King at a retirement reception for revenue commissioner Gene Ellison. That sentiment seemed to be shared by most if not all of the revenue office staff, many of whom were moved to tears as Ellison shared a few words, saying he was “overwhelmed” with the outpouring of love and well wishes.

“We don’t deserve it, but we certainly appreciate it,” said Ellison, who was joined by his wife Freida for the reception.

Ellison thanked his wife and family, his staff, his campaigners – everyone he saw as having an impact in his career as revenue commissioner. “There’s not a morning I didn’t look forward to coming down here,” he said.
