The Franklin County Extension System recently held a “Blocks Rocks” competition for 4-H students in the county and city schools.

Kathy Borden, Franklin County 4-H agent assistant, said the students used Lego’s © building blocks to construct different items as a way to learn about construction, engineering and architecture and to express their artistic interests.
The competition allowed the students to show off their creativity, share their design abilities, use their skills as an architect, artist and craftsman, and plan, organize and carry through on a challenging project.
Winners in the “Blocks Rocks” competition are as follows:

Junior division

1^st place – Timothy Cox, 5^th grade, Belgreen High School

2^nd place – Isaiah Oliver, 5^th grade, East Franklin Junior High School

2^nd place – Hayden Moss, 6^th grade, Phil Campbell Elementary School

3^rd place – Hannah Martin, 5^th grade, Red Bay High School

Intermediate division

1^st place – Joey Stults, 7^th grade, Vina High School

2^nd place – Juan Osoria, 8^th grade, Russellville Middle School

Senior division

1^st place – Clay Hodges, 11^th grade, Tharptown High School
