FAYETTE — The Class 3A Fayette County Tigers came into Friday night’s matchup against the Russellville Golden Tigers with a 8-1 record on the season.

Their only loss of the season came at the hands of 1A Pickens County during week one, but now the Tigers have finished the season with an 8-2 record.

Russellville did not overlook  the Tigers, as the Golden Tigers won an offensive shootout 58-27 over Fayette.

This win for Russellville ties the record between the two teams at 8-8.

Senior running back Tyler Boyd came up big for Russellville Friday night by rushing for 101 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries.

That mark gave Boyd near a 10-yard per rush average.

Boyd put the Golden Tigers on the board with a 5-yard touchdown run.

The PAT by senior kicker Adam Brown was true, and Russellville had a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers capitalized on an interception with a 59-yard touchdown return, but a 29-yard run and score by Boyd put the Golden Tigers back on top in the first quarter.

Fayette scored again in the first but missed the PAT, giving Russellville a 14-13 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Tigers tied Russellville with 14 points in the second quarter, keeping the Golden Tigers’ lead at one point (28-27) at intermission.

Russellville’s other two senior running backs, Bud Coleman and C.J. Posey, accounted for the other two rushing touchdowns in the first half.

Russellville’s defense came out of the break fired up and did not give up another point to Fayette.

The Golden Tigers added 30 points to its lead in the second half on two scores by Boyd, one by Posey, a 4-yard rushing touchdown by freshman Deyon Hill and a safety.

Russellville will travel to Etowah for round one of the 2012 Class 5A playoffs next Friday night.
