Arrests made in burglary cases

Investigators with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office made three arrests in separate cases on Thursday that they hope will help solve several of the recent break-ins in the county.

Adam Calhoun, 29, 1960 Lawrence 448, Mt. Hope, was arrested and charged with third-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree criminal trespassing for his alleged role in two different break-ins in the county in December.

Jerry Matthew Green, 27, 948 Franklin 74, Russellville, and Richard Haddock, 28, 404 NE Carol Ave., Russellville, were both arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property for their alleged role in a personal property theft on Franklin 89 on Dec. 8.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, investigators have been working on the more than 25 open burglaries the county has encountered since the month of October and officers were able to receive several breaks in cases this past week that led to arrests.

Calhoun is accused of stealing items from a business located on Franklin 83 on Dec. 6.

He also picked up the first-degree criminal trespassing charge when he was spotted later that same day at a home in the county where the homeowner pulled up and allegedly saw him and another suspect attempting to enter the home.

Oliver said the homeowner said Calhoun and the other suspect fled on foot but Calhoun was picked up Thursday on the charges.

The investigation into these two break-ins is still ongoing.

Green and Haddock are accused of stealing items from a property on Franklin 89 on Dec. 8.

Oliver said the sister of the victim saw a dark green truck leaving the property last Thursday with a hot water heater and scrap metal loaded in the back.

Due to the nature of the items taken, Oliver said the victim talked to an employee at the Franklin County Recycling Center who confirmed several of the items had been brought in matching the description of the stolen items.

Oliver said investigators were able to determine the truck in question belonged to Green who was picked up on Alabama 24 on Thursday with Haddock as the two men were returning to the recycling center with more scrap metal.

The investigation in this case is still ongoing.

At press time, all three suspects were in custody at the Franklin County Jail.
