Calloway third in Mr. Football voting

Russellville running back Brent Calloway knew he was a member of the Super 12 back in December. What he didn’t know was where he stood among the 12 best players in the state.

The answer was revealed Wednesday at the annual Player of the Year Awards Luncheon to present the Alabama Sports Writers Association Mr. Football Award Presented by Hibbett Sports.

Calloway finished third among his peers with 184 points.

Wetumpka quarterback Jamal Golden finished first with 222 points followed by Spanish Fort offensive lineman Reese Dismukes with 190 points, Calloway, Leeds defensive back Jonathan Rose with 145 points and Leroy wide receiver Sammie Coats with 141 points.

The announcement is good news for Auburn, which now has three of the top four players in the state as verbal commitments. Calloway changed his commitment from Alabama to Auburn during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last Saturday while Dismukes and Rose have been Auburn commitments for a long time.
