Bobcats’ season ends with 42-26 loss to Hackleburg

PHIL CAMPBELL — Phil Campbell scored the only touchdown of the first quarter, but three scores by Hackleburg in the second quarter gave the Panthers a comfortable lead they would not surrender in their 42-26 victory against the Bobcats.

Craig Saint opened the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown run and added the PAT to give Phil Campbell a 7-0 lead with 5:38 remaining in the opening quarter.

Hackleburg answered early in the second with a 28-yard pass to tie the game. The Panthers added touchdown passes of 24 yards and 7 yards to take a 21-7 lead by halftime.

Hackleburg increased its lead with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown then scored on a 6-yard run with 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Bobcats answered 14 seconds later when Saint hit Dylan Rice with a 60-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion failed, leaving Phil Campbell trailing 35-13.

Hackleburg added its final score on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Saint connected with Thomas Woodham on a 47-yard pass to cut the deficit to 42-19. The Bobcats then recovered an onside kick.

Tyson Sumerel finished the drive for Phil Campbell when he found Jordan Benford for 43-yard touchdown pass.

Saint finished the game with 104 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He also had touchdown passes of 60 and 47 yards.

With the loss Phil Campbell falls to 4-6 on the season.
