Woman accused of stealing from family

A local woman was arrested Friday after stealing several pieces of jewelry from a family member and attempting to sell the jewelry at a local business.

Sarah Mayfield, 23, 2460 Highway 60, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property, first-degree receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

According to authorities, the victim discovered that several pieces of jewelry were missing from her home after the defendant’s recent visit.

The victim contacted local businesses and gave them a description of the stolen jewelry in case any of it was sold.

On Friday, the defendant attempted to sell several pieces of the jewelry at a local business. An employee of the store recognized the jewelry from the description given by the victim and notified authorities.

After being questioned by investigators with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the defendant admitted her involvement in the crime, officials said.

Mayfield’s bond is set at $5,000 but she is being held on warrants from an un-related matter.
