Gerald B. Hooper

Gerald B. ”Jack” Hooper, age 84, Russellville, Ala. passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at UAB Hospital. He was a native of Franklin County and member of Russellville Church of Christ.
Gerald was drafted before finishing high school to serve in the Navy in World War II.  He served on the U.S.S. Endicott, a destroyer converted to a mine sweeper.  He was awarded his high school diploma after military service, and then attended Freed-Hardeman College.  During his working years he was employed by Reynolds Metals, Diamond Alkali Co., and Ford Motor Co.  He worked as an accountant for Diamond and Ford Motor Company.  He was retired from Ford Motor Company.
He was an active Christian for all his adult life, serving as an elder and teaching numerous bible classes.  He loved to sing, and frequently led singing in church over the years.
Gerald loved God, his family, the church, and his country.  He faced the difficulties of his final illness, lasting more than a year, with remarkable courage, faith and patience, never complaining about his health difficulties.  His unwavering faith and gracious manner can serve as a fine example to all who have known him.
Funeral service will be Monday, June 14, 2010, 11 a.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville with Frank Richey and Eddie Caskey officiating.  Burial will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include wife, Frances Hooper, Russellville; children, Laura Hooper Leavit and husband, Jerry, Florence; James Hooper, Muscle Shoals; Jan Robison Wones, Montgomery; Phil Robison and wife, Annette, Russellville; sisters, Frances Moore, JoAnne Nading and husband, Gary;  brother, James W. Hooper and wife, Mona; grandchildren, Martin Leavitt, Morgan Leavitt, Scott Robison, Caleb Robison, Brittney Wones; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Ray Hester, Wayne Hester, Bill Hester, Brian Moore, Bruce Hooper and Jeremy Ramsey.
Honorary bearers will be Craig Moore, Blaine Hooper, Dr. J. Erik Busby, Dr. Jerry Cox and Dr. Terry.
He was preceded in death by, mother of his children, Betty Jo Hester Hooper; parents, John Albert and Stella Hooper; brother-in-law, Tommy Moore.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at UAB for the love, patience and care they provided for Gerald.
