Louise W. Hyatt
Louise Windham Hyatt, age 90, Russellville, Ala., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010.
A native of Scott County, Mississippi, Mrs. Hyatt resided in Franklin County for over 50 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville where she served on many committees and boards over the years.
She received a B.S. degree from the University of Mississippi and M.S. degree from the University of Tennessee. She was a substitute teacher in Russellville City Schools, active in the PTA and the Russellville Band Parents Club. Mrs. Hyatt initiated a Driver’s Ed program, was active in Girl and Boy Scouts, helped to organize Reed Town Girl Scout Troop, and received the Acron Award for organizing Boy Scout Troop #39. Mrs. Hyatt was a charter member of greater Russellville Chamber of Commerce and served on the Arts and Humanities Council, Franklin County Mental Health Association, and Franklin County Medical Society Auxiliary.
She was a longtime member of the Cultura Garden Club, book Lover’s Club, a local bridge club, and the Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs, from whom she received the Outstanding Clubwoman Award. Mrs. Hyatt also received the Russellville area Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Award, which was created to honor women as valued members and leaders of the community, and the United Methodist Women of Russellville First United Methodist Church’s Woman of the Year Award.
Funeral service will be Sunday May 30, 2010, 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, Russellville, with Dr. Clint Busler and Brother Alan Beasley officiating. Pre-service visitation in the church one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Entombment will be in Franklin Memory Mausoleum. Visitation will be Saturday, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville.
Survivors include husband, Wayne P. Hyatt, M.D., Russellville; son, Wayne P. Hyatt, Jr. M.D., and wife, Fran, Trussville; daughter, Carolyn H. Samelson, and husband, Les, Vail, Colorado; grandchildren, Jenna Samelson Browning, Lee E. Samelson, III, Hallie W. Hyatt; brother, Andrew A. Windham, M.D., Memphis, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Alexander W. Browning, Bryson H. Browning; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Allie Windham.
