Rehab patient on the run with infant son

Officials are on the hunt for a missing woman who left a court-ordered rehabilitation center and took her infant son with her.

Franklin County Courthouse officials said Khristina Wheeler, 20, who’s hometown is Haleyville but has recently been living in Russellville, is believed to have taken off with her 4-week-old infant son and her mother.

“We fear for the welfare of both the child and mother,” said Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing. “We hope the community will help us out by coming forward with any information about their whereabouts. In these type situations, it usually takes some aid from the public to help solve the case.”

Authorities said Wheeler has been missing for the past two or three weeks and are asking for help from the communities to help locate her.

Franklin County Sheriff’s office investigators said Wheeler has a long history of drug use and was actually arrested back in November 2009 on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Court documents indicate Wheeler was placed in the rehab program in January before the child was born.

Officials fear the infant is at a high risk, because of Wheeler’s history of drug use.

Authorities said Wheeler’s last known address was on Franklin 60, north of Russellville city limits.

Law enforcement officials said Wheeler could possibly be in the Haleyville area or traveling on route to New Orleans with her mother, Mary Susan Camp, and infant son.

The Franklin County Department of Human Resources is working closely with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office to track down Wheeler and her child.

Wheeler has brown hair, blue eyes, five feet eight inches tall and weighs 167 pounds.
