Grant helps county prepare students for all jobs

Most of the talk about education these days are about the lack of funding and what that will do to math, reading and science grades.

Not all students, however, are looking at careers in math, reading and science.

While a good basis of knowledge in these subjects will build a strong foundation, some students are more interested in pursuing technical careers.

Franklin County recently received a $100,000 grant to help some of these students out. The money was used to purchase a pair of high-tech routers and other items for the woodworking program.

This is not a bad investment as the starting pay for somebody who can operate these systems is about $20 per hour.

It is nice to see the state and local systems put this money to use for these students.

With many people complaining about test scores, it would have been easy to ignore these students who want to create for a living.
