RHS has tremendous sports heritage

Having just completed another stellar season, our gridiron heroes, the Russellville Golden Tigers, deserve lots of praise for a great year, even though the ending was a bit sad.
I attended all of our home games and several away games and think coach Doug Goodwin and his staff did a great job molding these young men to football greatness.
I also feel like our band, The Marching Hundred, put on a very good performance at every game.
Now we are embarking on our new basketball season at RHS and it looks like coach Michael Smith will also have another great season with some good players back from our team last year and some new talented young men to replace our graduates from last year’s team.
The most important thing we as Ma Mas and Paw Paws and moms and dads can do is to show as much support as we can by attending some games to help boost the morale of our young ball players. They attend school and are working to get higher achievements in their lives, but they spend many hours preparing for a great season as well.
We sometimes get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life to remember just how important education really is to our young people.
Here in Russellville we have the finest sports facilities around and lots of folks sit around and gripe because of the cost involved in those facilities. Many colleges do not have such facilities and I doubt that and school that has played in the football stadium left without marveling and being maybe even a bit jealous of our place.
We also have a beautiful new tennis complex and pool area we can be very proud of.
So folks, lets get ready to go attend one of our school’s games this season and help boost the morale of our team.
Lord, I remember when I played football. We had not much more than a lighted cow pasture to play on.
Don’t some of you 60-and-70-year-olds remember?
I do. Lets be proud of what we have here.
