Vina tops Mount Hope

By Staff
VINA – It was an ugly win, but it was a win nonetheless as the Vina varsity boys defeated Mount Hope 53-42.
Leading the way was Morgan McCarley, who had missed the first few games because of an injury, with 13 points. He has 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
"We played as poorly as we could play and get a win," Vina coach Sonny Tibbs said. "Mount Hope out hustled us and out played us. We were extremely happy to come away with a win."
Brent Townsend added 11 points for the Red Devils while Cass White scored 10.
Tibbs said the team played well in the fourth quarter and hopes the momentum will carry over into Monday's game against Brilliant.
Girls action
The Vina girls team did not fare as well as the boys team, loosing a squeaker 37-36.
Devyn Childers led the Lady Red Devils with 13 points while Jesse Norwood added 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Victoria Cochran also had five rebounds.
The Vina junior varsity girls also picked up a loss, falling 52-42.
Miranda Howard was the top scorer for Vina with 23 points and Catlin Benstien scored nine for the Lady Red Devils.
