Red Bay officials suspect arson in house blaze

RED BAY – Officials with the Red Bay Police Department suspect that a house in the city was intentionally set ablaze.
Police Chief Pat Creel said officers were notified that smoke was coming from 10th Street in Red Bay around 7:02 p.m. Sunday.
"A member of the Rescue Squad saw smoke and notified us on the radio," Creel said.
When Sgt. Scottie Belue arrived at the structure, located at 501 10th Street in Red Bay, he found the house was fully involved and the Red Bay Fire Department was dispatched out.
"There really wasn't much they [the fire department] could do," Creel said. "The house was a total loss."
Creel said arson is suspected in case, and witnesses have been interviewed.
"We have a couple of suspects in the case," Creel said.
Jimmy Collier with the State Fire Marshal's Office and Lt. Eddy Chandler arrived on the scene Monday in order to conduct that investigation.
The house was owned by Bonnie Gray of Vina, but no one was living at the residence at the time of the blaze.
No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
