A Phil Campbell man was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison on multiple charges including theft of property, eluding police and criminal mischief.
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Lewis Wayne Campbell, 26, of 36 Scout Hollow Road in Phil Campbell, was sentenced to 20 years for his first-degree theft of property conviction, and 10 years for assault, and criminal mischief.
"The way it was sentenced the 10 year sentences will be concurrent with each other but consecutive with the 20 year sentence," Rushing said. "In all, Mr. Campbell received 30 years in prison."
Campbell was convicted in June on charges of first-degree theft of property, two counts of reckless endangerment, first-degree and second-degree criminal mischief, obscuring the identity of a vehicle, eluding, and second-degree receiving stolen property.
The charges stemmed from two high speed chases on Aug. 29, 2007 involving two stolen vehicles, and injuring one law enforcement official in Franklin County.
"We feel the sentence sends a message that when you put yourself, other motorists, police officers and the general public in danger, it carries a stiff penalty," Rushing said.
Campbell remains in the Franklin County Detention Center on a bond revocation due to other charges since his conviction.
