Borden honored by city Masonic lodge

Masons from across the state traveled to Russellville recently to honor a former state leader.
Gerald Borden, of Russellville, was honored in June for his service to the state lodge and Russellville Masonic Lodge 371.
Borden served as Grand Master of the state of Alabama in 1978-1979 and as master of the Russellville lodge in 1969-1970.
Russellville's current lodge master Billy Fuller, Jr., presented Borden with an appreciation plaque from the lodge.
Russellville Lodge 371 was chartered on Dec. 8, 1870.
The Russellville Masons are active in numerous community events and support several area charities. In past years, the group has raised money for the Franklin County Relay for Life, purchased toys for needy children and assisted families in need.
The Russellville lodge holds the distinction of having three members who served as past Grand Masters of the state of Alabama, which is the highest position attainable at the state level for a Mason.
The three who have held that honor are J.C. Roe, who served from 1948-1949, Borden, and Robert Leverne Jones, who served in 1992-1993.
