Nursing home honored nationally

A Russellville nursing home is one of only five statewide to receive a national honor for exemplary nursing home quality care and service.
Burns Nursing Home received the Excellence in Action award Wednesday, according to the Alabama Nursing Home Association.
This year's award was presented to My InnerView customers who completed a resident or family satisfaction survey in 2007 and had a minimum 30 percent response rate. The facility had to score in the top 10 percent of facilities with respondents rating the nursing home as "excellent" to the question, "What is your recommendation of this facility to others?"
"This award shows that our staff provides a high quality of care and places the residents first," Burns Nursing Home Administrative Assistant Cam DeArman said.
"We are honored that our residents and their families would rate us as excellent and recommend us to others."
The annual award recognizes those nursing homes which have made a commitment to continuous quality improvement and have successfully made quality a priority to better serve their customers' needs, the association said.
Alabama nursing homes receiving the Excellence in Action award were Burns Nursing Home, Falkville Health Care Center in Falkville, Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home in Killen, Madison Manor Nursing Home in Madison and SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Muscle Shoals.
"The response to this survey is a clear indication of how well these facilities are doing. Nursing home residents and family members visiting our facilities know better than anyone else the high level of care provided," Alabama Nursing Home Association Executive Director Louis Cottrell said.
"The Alabama Nursing Home Association congratulates these member facilities for this outstanding accomplishment."
"This year's award recipients truly demonstrate their dedication to excellence in quality," said Brad Shiverick, Chief Quality Officer for My InnerView.
