ATWOOD – The tight-knit community of Atwood is once again pulling together to help a community member in need.
The Bear Creek Trail Riders will host a benefit for a local cancer patient Saturday. The benefit will go to help with treatment expenses for Jackie Davidson.
The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the morning ride and will break for lunch at 12:30 p.m. The afternoon ride is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
The cost to participate is $10 per rider and all proceeds go to benefit Davidson for cancer treatments.
The ride will be held at the same location as the club's annual St. Jude Ride.
The Franklin County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is getting involved by asking for donations from local businesses and individuals for the event.
"We want to help any way we can," CERT president Dennis Sell said. "Whatever it takes."
Sell said CERT not only helps in time of natural disasters or emergencies, but also to help with anything that affects the community.
"We are a community-oriented group, and we want to help with whatever affects the community," Sell said. "Cancer affects the whole community and we want to be of assistance."
Sell said he would like to see everyone at the ride to help with these treatments.
For more information on the ride or to get directions, call 662-844-5886, 662-844-1771, 662-322-4965 or 662-676-2547.
Davidson is a longtime resident of Atwood and married to Bud Davidson.
