A few more days to go

It's that time of year again!
The time when our kids don't want to go to school and wake up whining and begging to stay home.
I remember feeling the same way when I was a kid. I remember starting to count down the weeks until summer vacation in late March every year, and then, the days when the first of May rolled around.
My kids are certainly no exception. They are tired of getting up and going to school.
This year I have a preschooler and a first grader. Next year, I have to look forward to having a second grader and a kindergartener, and I am quite excited about that.
But, until then, my boys are looking forward to sleeping a little later and watching TV and playing outside. For them it's a couple of months without homework and time to play. For me, it's a break from the morning madness.
Nothing drives me more crazy than uncooperative children, and my boys do not cooperate most of the time. In my house, the law is 'if it can go wrong it will.' Most of the time, it takes several trips into their bedroom to get them to get out of bed.
Friday morning, I kept going in there and telling them to get up. Jordan responded by telling me that he's trying to wake up but his eyes were not cooperating. Cameron acts like he's a baby every morning, wanting me to dress him and carry him around. Since he weighs like 50 pounds now, I have to spank him for him to get himself ready. He's the one that is dropped off last and a lot of the time you'll find me in the parking lot of his preschool finishing getting him dressed because we didn't have time to wait for him to finish at home.
Frankly, on these days, I thank God I only have two children.
It's not really any easier when their dad is home. The only real difference is I'm not the one yelling, spanking and getting all agrivated, he is, and I don't feel one bit guilty about not helping him get them ready. I don't have help in the morning, and I have to go to work. The way I see it is that parenthood is a partnership and he needs his fair share of experience dealing with uncooperative children.
But, when school lets out in a few weeks, I'll get a little break because I won't have to hear Jimmy getting them dressed, but my routine will not change.
My boys will have to attend a summer program while I work, so even though there will be no school, I'll have the same fight getting them ready. The only difference is that I won't have to pack lunches, and when Jimmy's home, I can sleep until 7 a.m. in peace instead of hearing him yell at them about getting up and ready.
I won't have to hear Jimmy complain about how much I have babied them in their early years and how Jordan still depends on us to do some things for him.
But, for me, that's enough of a break because I am looking forward to Aug. 6 when my baby goes to school and I can save the daycare cash. And that's worth getting up earlier in the morning.
