Fun fest to benefit police reserves set

The Russellville Police Department will hold it's second annual Fun Fest May 10 in downtown Russellville.
The event, which is sponsored by the police reserves, is the city's effort to educate local children in the areas of law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services.
"The event is all about safety," Reserve Commander Ken Shannon said. "We try to teach the kids how to be safe in certain situations and provide them with a fun environment at the same time."
There will be several hands-on safety training classes for the children. After each child completes the safety class, they will be awarded three tickets, redeemable at any of the rides on site.
"They can come and go all day and just keep getting the tickets," Shannon said. "But they have to sit through the safety class."
Police reserves will also provide fingerprints and identification cards to parents.
There is no cost to attend the festival and all prizes are free to the participants.
This year's Fun Fest will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
