What was I thinking?

Springtime is one of the best times of the year to catch big bass and boatloads of crappie.
It's the time of year when the local tournaments get into full swing and the opportunities to fish seem endless. It's my favorite time of year. There is only one catch – you have to clear your schedule to make time to fish.
About two weeks ago I made a decision that would severely limit my opportunities to fish for the next couple of months. I started an addition to our house. Yes, I know, what in the world was I thinking? I voluntarily eliminated my opportunities to fish during the spring with one stroke of the pen.
After I mentioned the idea to my wife a couple of months ago there was no turning back. Initially it didn't seem like that big of a deal. The work would be completed through the sheet rock and I would paint and install flooring and fixtures myself. That seemed pretty simple at the time, but yet again, what was I thinking?
When all the work is over I guess it will be worth it. I'll have a new roof, electrical system and bathroom and a walk-in closet big enough to park a boat in. Well, maybe not a boat but you get the idea.
So, for the upcoming weeks my columns will probably not be a result of my personal experiences from fishing. If you have interesting fish tales, please be sure to share them with me. I'll need the material.
This weekend the Belgreen Bulldog tournament will be held on Cedar Lake at Slick Rock boat ramp. I plan on fishing this tournament before all my work begins and I encourage you to do the same. Plan your projects carefully during the spring so that you will have time to fish and plan time to take a kid fishing.
