Vina earns victories over Belgreen, Mount Hope

GUIN – The Phil Campbell varsity baseball team outscored Marion County 31-4 in a non-area doubleheader Thursday as the Bobcats have won 16 of their last 17 games.
In the first game, Phil Campbell used 16 hits to defeat Marion County 13-3 as Dillan Hamby pitched five innings and Caleb Thompson had a perfect day at the plate with four hits.
Bailey Welborn and Adam Mitchell each went 3-for-3, while Jonathan Dill and Stephen Lacey had two hits apiece.
In the nightcap, Welborn worked four innings with six strikeouts as the Bobcats beat Marion County 18-1.
Lacey went 3-for-3, while Hamby, Thompson and Jordan Benford added two hits for the Bobcats (16-8).

MOUNT HOPE – The Vina varsity baseball team broke through with 11 runs in the second inning to beat Mt. Hope 14-4 Thursday.
Brent Townsend worked four innings and allowed only two hits with eight strikeouts to earn the victory for the Red Devils (8-9).
Channing Haithcock hit a two-RBI homer in the second, while Ryan Manasco had a two-run double in the inning. Randy Barnes went 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in five runs, and Townsend went 2-for-4 with four runs scored.

Belgreen 0
VINA – Vina earned a Class 1A, Area 16 victory by blanking Belgreen 7-0 Monday.
Randy Barnes went the distance for the Red Devils with only three hits allowed and six strikeouts.
Brent Townsend drove in two of Vina's five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Red Devils broke open a close game.
Ryan Manasco and Clay Pierce each drove in a run and had two hits to lead Vina.

MUSCLE SHOALS – The Russellville varsity boys golf team won its fourth match this season as the Black squad shot a 157 Tuesday to beat Muscle Shoals by six strokes.
T.J. Seagraves fire a 37, while Bryan Brown had a 39 for the Golden Tigers. The Trojans' Eric Broadfoot earned low medalist honors with a score of 36.
