Be both proactive and vigilant in dealing with bullies

By Staff
Times have changed drastically since most of us were young and in many cases it's not for the better.
A report on the front page of today's Franklin County Times highlights how local schools are combating bullying. However, bullying has taken on a new face. No longer is it isolated to the hallways and the parking lots. It's no longer a flick of the ear, a punch on the arm or 'Kick Me' signs.
It's much more serious. Advancements in technology have made many aspects of daily life much easier. This includes bullying.
Text messages, emails and social networking sites have become the new playground in regards to bullying.
We urge parents to talk to their children about bullying and how they can prevent it. If it's too late to prevent it, you can help your children find a way to stop it. The days of a good old fashioned showdown in the schoolyard are long gone. Unfortunately, it's much more complicated to stand up to a bully and your children will need your help.
