Southern Manor granted license

Russellville now has a second officially licensed assisted living home.
The Alabama Department of Public Health notified officials yesterday that Southern Manor Assisted Living had officially been granted a license to open.
Southern Rural Health Care Consortium acquired the property earlier this month. It was formerly known as Lawrence Place.
"We are going to open 15 beds by April 1 and we hope to open the remaining 29 beds by May 1," human resources director Kathy Hall said.
The facility will contain 44 licensed beds at its capacity.
The state toured Southern Manor Tuesday to make sure officials had corrected the deficiencies cited in a recent report under its previous owner.
"We corrected all the deficiencies that were related to the building," Hall said.
"Everything has been totally remodeled, including the kitchen which has been completely brought up to code."
The facility will have a full-time activities director, a registered nurse that visits each week, two cooks have completed the safe-serve courses and a registered dietician.
Officials said they plan to continue offering competitive prices.
There will be three sizes of rooms with three different price ranges.
"We have tried to be conscientious of what the market is here," Hall said.
Tammy Trapp, who served as administrator at Lawrence Place in the past, has been hired as administrator once again.
"I think everyone will appreciate the changes we've made and the safety preventions we have put in place," Southern Rural Health Care president and CEO Margaret Lovett said. "The community has been very good to work with us anyway they could."
