Become a part of the process

By Staff
As of yesterday evening, only 11 people had qualified to seek public office in Franklin County.
Qualifying for local elections began Saturday morning with several Democrats turning out to register. There have been no Republicans to qualify for a countywide office yet.
Voting is one of the greatest things about being an American. It's why millions of people each year seek to call the U.S. their home.
However, it looks as if many local races will go uncontested. As it stands now, all elections will be decided by the Democratic Primary.
Jerry Fancher, chairman of the Republican Executive Committee, said he expects that to change but no one has filed the necessary paperwork to throw their hat into the ring.
Republicans interested in qualifying can call Jerry Fancher at 810-1209. Democratic party candidates can call Wanda Myrick at 332-3270 or Brian Hamilton at 332-1660.
We urge everyone to consider becoming part of the democratic process and if you've considered running for office, we urge you to do so.
