Martin named to Red Bay council seat

RED BAY – The Red Bay City Council is back to full staff after voting Monday night to fill the seat vacated by Rayford Seahorn's resignation in January.
The council voted to appoint David Martin to the council. Council members Bobby Nelson, Patsy Hammock, and Ann Wilkins voted for the selection while Council member Ricky Holland abstained from the voted.
"I am abstaining because I have not been involved with the process [for candidate selection]," Holland said.
Mayor Jeff Reid said that Martin will be sworn into office during the next regular council meeting.
"We hope to Judge [Barry] Moore will be present to swear him into office," Reid said.
In other business, Certified Public Accountant Dicky Sparks presented the council with the annual audit report.
"The city is in good shape," Sparks told the council. "Even better than last year. I commend the city management for keeping your expenses in check."
Sparks did note one glaring concern was the sewer system lost $109,000 during the fiscal year.
"You've got to make money," Sparks told the council during the report.

Reid announced that the skate park will open on Saturday, March 8 at 9 a.m.
The next regular council meeting will be held on Monday, March 17, 2008.
