Work set for Weatherford Library

RED BAY – The Weatherford Library will get some much needed renovations soon.
The Red Bay City Council has voted to provide matching funds for a grant to provide upgrades to the library.
Librarian Linda Ezzell said the library will be getting a new heating and cooling unit, a new metal roof, vinyl to cover all existing wood, energy-efficient lighting and minor bathroom renovations.
"When we applied for the grant, the heating and cooling system was still in good shape, but now it's on its last leg so the grant couldn't have come at a better time," Mayor Jeff Reid said.
The amount awarded to the library was $32,415 to cover the renovations for the library with the city providing matching funds totaling $9,725.
"We have a beautiful building," Reid said. "We're just making it a little better."
Ezzell said the renovations should begin in the next month, and all renovations must be completed by the end of June according to conditions in the grant.
The Weatherford Library was constructed in 1980 and named in honor of Dr. Z. L. Weatherford.
"Dr. Weatherford provided the funding for the building and the library was named after him," Ezzell said.
