Cory Trapp isn't someone who enjoys attention, but the three-sport star at Russellville High School has a knack for being in the limelight.
"Cory's really quiet and doen't like a lot to draw a lot of attention," said Russellville football coach Doug Goodwin. "He just always seems to be a pretty good player, no matter which season he's in."
In the past year, Trapp has been named the football offensive MVP, area player of the year in baseball and tournament MVP twice in basketball.
"The thing that stands out most in my mind about him is the first game of the season, because the week before he had struggled in the jamboree game in Tuscaloosa," Goodwin said. "But against Deshler he bounced back and didn't throw any interceptions, and he made some key completions on the drive when we were coming back against them.
"There was a play earlier in the game when Mike (Abernathy) had an 80-yard TD run, and the play had been called to the other side but Cory checked it to the right side. He's a heady player, and that game gave me a lot of confidence in him."
Trapp pitches and plays infield for the baseball team, quarterbacks the football team and starts at shooting guard for the undefeated Golden Tigers basketball team, which is ranked No. 4 in Class 5A this season and expected to compete for the state championship.
He also excels in the classroom. has a 3.9 GPA and named math as his favorite subject. He also belongs to several clubs at Russellville, including the annual staff, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Art Club.
Trapp plans to play baseball in college, but he hasn't committed to a school yet and wants to wait until the end of the school year to sign.
"I've talked to a few schools, but I haven't made a commitment," said Trapp, who would love to play for Auburn. "I want to wait until after baseball season because it would give more schools a chance to see me play."
He said some of his favorite memories from playing sports are from the past year.
"This basketball season has been one of my top moments because we're still undefeated, and last year we went to the semifinals in baseball," said Trapp, who named baseball coach David Ward and basketball coach Michael Smith as his favorite coaches. "I've known Coach Ward all of my life, and he's been a good friend. Coach Smith has only been here three seasons, but he's really easy to get along with."
Despite the pressures that comes along with playing sports year-round and keeping up his grades, Trapp said he likes to laugh and enjoy himself.
"I'll laugh at anything funny, and I like to cut up in class," said Trapp. "My funniest teammates are probably Corey Flanagan and Jacob Daniel. They're a lot like me, and they're really laid-back."
In his spare time Trapp said he likes to listen to music and spend time at home.
"I don't really have a lot of spare time, but I like be at home and play PlayStation or get on the computer," said Trapp. "Rock music is probably my favorite, and I also like country."
Trapp is the son of Greg and Donna Trapp and has an older brother, Chris, 20, and an older sister, Brittany, 22.
