Belgreen girls, Phil Campbell boys win

BELGREEN – The Belgreen varsity girls enjoyed their home court advantage Friday as the Lady Bulldogs beat Phil Campbell 79-60.
In their previous meeting Nov. 15, Belgreen (8-4) trailed by 11 points at halftime but used a 34-point second half to overtake the Lady Bobcats 59-53.
This time, Belgreen used a balanced scoring attack – eight different players scored for the Lady Bulldogs – and a late scoring burst in the closing minutes of the second quarter.
Phil Campbell led by six points entering the first quarter, but Belgreen tied the game at 28 when Keri Metcalf sank a turnaround jumper with three minutes remaining until halftime. Her basket started a 12-3 run for the Lady Bulldogs, which included 3-pointers from Monica Smith and Martha Billingham, who scored 12 of her 24 points during the quarter.
Belgreen led 40-31 at halftime but Phil Campbell opened the third quarter with three straight baskets to trim the lead to 40-37 after a putback by Jessica Taylor.
But the Lady Bulldogs responded with an 8-2 run and led 55-45 heading into the final period.
Belgreen used a 14-6 run to open the fourth quarter and led by as many as 20 points.
Smith finished with 15 points, while Deborah Billingham and Kellie Oliver had 10 apiece and Amy Smith added nine.
Chasity Morgan led Phil Campbell (5-6) with 22 points, while Alissa Smith had 21 and Taylor finished with 15.

The Phil Campbell varsity boys used hot outside shooting to beat Belgreen 72-51.
Tate Canida had a season-high 20 points for Phil Campbell, including several key 3-pointers. Tanner Maddox tossed in 14 points, and Jonathan Dill added 11 points, along with 11 rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks.
Kyle Warren led Belgreen with 22 points, including 13 in the final quarter. Jesse Edwards had nine points, and Shane Fretwell added eight.

The Phil Campbell junior varsity boys built a 14-point halftime lead and closed the third quarter with an 8-0 run that put the game out of reach as the Bobcats beat Belgreen 58-34.
Dillon Hamby led Phil Campbell with 13 points, while Austin Nix had 12 points and Matt Waid added nine.
Jacob Green and Brandon Hester scored eight points each to pace Belgreen, and Jared Richardson added seven.
