Waterloo downs Tharptown 22-8

WATERLOO – The Tharptown Wildcats lost 22-8 to the Waterloo Cougars Friday night in a defensive battle.
Junior quarterback Tyler Cagle scored on a six-yard keeper with 6:53 left in the final quarter and connected with Jacob Parker for the two-point conversion to account for the Wildcats' only score.
Cagle finished with 85 rushing yards and 20 through the air to lead Tharptown (1-2).
After a scoreless first half, Waterloo (3-0) scored two touchdowns with two failed PATs and recorded a safety to go ahead 15-0.
The Cougars, who benefited from several questionable calls, struck again just seven seconds into the fourth quarter with another score and a successful PAT to increase their lead to 22-0.
Cagle's quarterback keeper and Parker's two-point conversion catch made the final score 22-8.
Junior running back and kick returner Daniel Scott returned to action for Tharptown after an injury sustained during last week's win against Mt. Hope, while Jarrod Seay and Brandon Cothom did not play. Freshman center Tyler Fisher injured his knee during the game and is questionable for next week's game.
Tharptown will travel again next week as the Wildcats will play at Parkway Christian next Friday night and return home on Sept. 28 to host St. Bernard.
