The Russellville High School coaching staff held the first-ever "RHS Youth Football Camp" July 25-26.
"I'd like to do it again next year," Russellville coach Doug Goodwin. "It's good for the kids, and it's good for us. We're just trying to serve the community and let kids get to know us and learn some fundamentals of football."
Goodwin said the camp registered approximately 83 players. The two-day camp ran from 8 a.m. to noon each day and featured drills, games and competitions. The camp was split into two major groups, the first through fourth grades and the fifth through eight grades. Each group rotated through offensive and defensive drills and positions.
Varsity players Mario Roman, Scotty Freeman and Josh Montgomery were also at the camp.
"They volunteered to help out, and it's good for them. It shows they're willing to work with younger kids, and they're a positive influence," Goodwin said.
