Local schools awarded state funding

Alabama State Senator Roger Bedford released information concerning monies that were allocated to local schools during the Regular Session, which concluded on Thursday, June 7.
From the Educational Bond Issue, local school systems will receive the following monies (based on enrollment) for capital expenditures: Franklin County School System $2,790,601, Russellville City School System $2,242,709, and Bevill State Community College $2,585,012.
In addition to the above monies, operating funds for the Franklin County and Russellville City School Systems increased approximately nine percent and Bevill State Community College approximately 12 percent.
Also, monies for textbook allocations were increased by almost eleven percent and the Adult Basic Education Program by about fifteen percent.
For statewide educational programs, Dental Scholarships was increased by 121 percent and Nursing Scholarships by 877 percent.
The Alabama Student Assistance Program was increased by 159 percent and the Education Grants Scholarship Loan Program was increased by 29 percent.
The Department of Children's Affairs was increased by 149-percent and the Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention was increased by 17.4 percent.
"It's a proud day for all Alabamians," Senator Bedford said.
