Vina athletes earn scholarships

Nine Vina High School student-athletes, including the class valedictorian and salutatorian, have received a variey of academic, athletic and community scholarships to attend Northwest-Shoals Community College or the University of North Alabama.
LeShe' McGee played basketball and softball for the Red Devils. In softball, she was named to the all-tournament team and won the team's most valuable player award. McGee received a There's A Way scholarship and will attend UNA on a valedictorian scholarship.
Paul Wilkins played football and baseball and ran track. He won the most valuable defensive back award and was named all-county in football. In track Wilkins was the sectional champion in the 100 meters and long jump and he received the most stolen bases award in baseball. He won a There's A Way scholarship and will attend either UNA or Northwest-Shoals.
Kayla Bridges played softball and basketball. In softball, she won the team's highest batting average award and was named to the all-tournament team. Bridges won a There's A Way scholarship and will attend Northwest-Shoals.
Max Weeks played football and baseball. He was named Most Improved and All-County in football, and won the baseball team's hardest-to-strikeout award. Weeks will attend Northwest-Shoals on an academic scholarship.
Patrick Cochran played football, basketball and baseball. He received the most valuable defensive lineman award and all-county in football, and the hustle award and all-conference in basketball. Cochran won the Lions Club scholarship and will attend Northwest-Shoals.
Jill Abbott played softball and won the team's most dedicated award. She was named to the all-tournament team and was the class salutatorian. Bridges won a There's A Way scholarship and will attend Northwest-Shoals.
Tony Jennings played football and basketball. He was all-county and won the most valuable defensive lineman award in football, and was team captain of the basketball squad. Jennings received a VICA scholarshp and will attend Northwest -Shoals.
Jessica Wooten was a cheerleader and played basketball and softball. She won an exceptional cheerleader award and best attitude award in softball. Wooten won scholarships from the Cattleman's Association, Bragwell Massey and There's A Way. She will attend Northwest-Shoals on a cheerleading scholarship.
Kyle Green played baseball and won the team's award for most runs batted in. He is considering the Alabama Fire College, and he also won a Cattleman's scholarship.
