Vina man arrested following attempted kidnapping

VINA – A Vina man is behind bars after allegedly kidnapping his girlfriend over the weekend.
Jeffrey Wade Campbell, 41, of 3370 Highway 16 in Vina, was charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault, Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said.
Campbell allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend after an altercation with her Saturday evening.
He allegedly forced himself into her car and drove her to the west side of the county, Plott said.
Campbell forced the victim into the woods where he allegedly placed a knife to her neck, and forced her into a sex act, Plott said.
The victim was able to escape from Campbell when he returned to the car. and hid in the surrounding woods.
"The victim hid in the woods for approximately six hours until deputies could locate her," Plott said.
The victim's family informed law enforcement officials of the situation.
Sheriff's deputies located early the victim early Sunday morning, and she was taken for treatment for minor injuries.
First-degree kidnapping is a Class A felony, which is punishable with 10 years to life in prison upon conviction. First-degree sexual abuse in a Class C felony, which is punishable with one year and one day to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
Campbell remains in the Franklin County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
