Phil Campbell athletes earn scholarships

Six Phil Campbell student-athletes, including the class valedictorian and salutatorian, have received a variety of academic, community and athletic scholarships to attend either the University of North Alabama or Northwest-Shoals Community College this fall.
Chase Hutcheson played basketball, football and golf for the Bobcats, and earned all-area honors and a scholastic award in basketball.
Hutcheson was class valedictorian and will attend UNA this fall on a valedictorian scholarship.
Shelly Cooper co-captained the basketball and softball teams and earned all-county and all-tournament in basketball and led the team in free throw shooting. She won the biggest play of the year award from the softball team, which finished 31-11 and won the county and area championships. She also ran track, was named the team's best in field events winner and won two state championships in 2006 and 2007 in the javelin throw.
Cooper was class salutatorian and received a There's A Way scholarship for $1,000 and a salutatorian scholarship to Northwest-Shoals.
Brett Thomas ran track and co-captained the basketball team. He was named to the all-county, all-area and all-tournament basketball teams, led the team in rebounds and was named the team's best defensive player.
Thomas will attend Northwest-Shoals this fall on an academic scholarship.
Carrie Fell co-captained the softball team with Cooper and was named all-county in cheerleading. She also earned the squad's best spirit award.
Fell received a There's A Way scholarship and an athletic scholarship for cheerleading at Northwest-Shoals.
Tasha Cochran will be re-united with Fell at Northwest-Shoals this fall. Cochran also won cheerleading and There's A Way scholarships.
Addie Grissom ran track and was named an all-county cheerleader. Grissom was named a There's A Way winner and she earned a partial athletic scholarship to cheer at UNA.
